We are the go to resource for harnessing digital tools and capabilities to improve the lives of low-income and vulnerable New Yorkers. As part of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Operations, the Accelerator + Connect unit uses policy, management and technical expertise to help produce better outcomes for residents.
As part of this unit, the Innovation and Design Team works with policy teams, City agencies, community-based organizations, and end users to analyze needs and opportunities and turn them into actionable digital services than can be designed, prototyped, tested, and developed.
Our Work
The unit currently operates HHS Accelerator, Worker Connect, and ACCESS NYC. Together, these initiatives break information silos through the use of modernized technology and coordinated agency practices to more efficiently and effectively provide health and human services to New Yorkers. We are actively working on new initiatives that build upon existing products and our expertise areas, including reducing the burden on non-profits, facilitating data integration to improve social service performance, and easing access to services and programs.
The Innovation and Design Team is central to the work on all products and new initiatives by leading design and user experience, producing design materials, conducting user research, working closely with the internal and vendor technology teams for development, and setting ongoing strategy for products.

Apprenticeships are project-based, part-time and usually last 2-3 months. Projects will focus on the delivery, on-going success, and continuous improvement of digital services.
